Teacher's Notes:

Julie AlfordJulie Alford began her Primetime Music program in 1983. She currently has approximately one-hundred students in the Anderson and Madison County areas.

Julie earned her B.A. degree in music with a vocal/education concentration from Anderson University. She is certified in five levels as a Suzuki piano instructor. She has taught a combination of the proven Bastien method and the vibrant repertoire of the Suzuki piano method for almost thirty years.

Julie’s unique approach in Primetime Music is based solidly in current research findings about how and when children learn most effectively. These studies point strongly to the existence of a “window of readiness” during which a child can begin to capture the essentials of music, learning to speak the language of music in much the same way as a child learns spoken language.

When music is rightly experienced within this “window of readiness”, or “prime time”, this window opens to the child a world of musical richness. In addition, some studies indicate a correlation between early music studies and the development of math and language skills.

Julie is an innovative vocal instructor and theory teacher, creatively equipping students with the skills they need for performance, while helping to lay the groundwork for composition and improvisation. Her experience with hundreds of children from early childhood to young adulthood has convinced her of the value of musical development as one of the building blocks in the development of the whole person.

Julie believes that her Primetime Music classes are much more than simply learning about musical concepts. She sees Primetime Music as a chance for all children to experience their own God-given inner resources to make music. Primetime Music is a place where every child finds a smile waiting just for them!
